Terry talking to
Chealsea

Dun Roven Chelsea age 31- Stallion- Owned by Kathi Harvey.
Kathi Harvey has owned dun Roven Chelsea for 25 years. Early this past January, he got deathly sick. First came colitis X. My great quarter horse Capers’ Cody got that and could not be saved. He went across the rainbow bridge and my heart went with him. My vet, Dr. Woods, tried for 5 days to save him. But to no avail.
Well, DRC got colitis X and Kathi’s vet worked on him for over a week. After many kinds of medications he began to get better and the diarrhea slowed down. Then came ecoli. Kathi and her vet worked overtime trying to save Chelsea. Remember, Kathi also has a full time job, therefore, she’s only getting very little, if any, sleep. Her husband Mert helps whenever he can.
Once the ecoli hit Chelsea, the vet and Kathi decided to take him to the Mid Lautic Equine Hospital. There, they found out Chelsea had ulcers. By now he had lost at least 300 lbs. Chelsea is 31 years old, his teeth just about gone so he can’t have hay. Someone suggested canned pumpkin along with the pelleted food to Kathi so that he might at least eat. Pumpkin IS fiber and with good spices too. Lo and behold, he ate. First a ½ cup with little pellets and beet pulps. Now he eats like a normal horse and has put weight back on.
I have asked for all the Appaloosa friends to send prayers to Chelsea, Kathi, Lauri Wessel (her vet), and Mert. Hundreds of phone calls and emails have come for them. Chelsea is the last of a line of great foundation stallions and when he goes, it will be impossible to replace him.
Chelsea has many children. I have Chief Sundancer, a son of Chelsea. Also, Brandys Snow Hawk (another stallion son of Chelsea). In addition, I have Chelsea City Snow, and TE’s Peach Brandy, which are both products of Dun Roven Chelsea. Also, Eagles’ Navajo Bambie C who is the grand daughter of DRC’s Image. Image passed on when he was 32.
Great horses go on forever. If not in reality, then in our hearts.
